On the 26th of August, Wednesday, the Year 7’s went to Pukaha Mt Bruce for an underground caving experience for part of their EOTC activities.

First the Year 7s meet up in Room 12 and got organised to drive to Pukaha. When we arrived we met with Beachy (Our provider)  in the Mt Bruce classroom. We had a discussion of what we might see in the cave and also how to be safe when we're in there.

Then we had morning tea which was interrupted by a visit by a bird creature from up above us (a friendly Kaka). As soon as we had all finished morning tea we went inside and Beachy told us a scary story... it turned out to be not that scary (It involved a big white fluffy cat).

Then we got ready by getting our clothes on for the cave.  We also grabbed a yellow helmet to wear for safety, and headed off.
We had a 10 minute walk up to a hill, then we needed to climb through a fence. Finally we made it to the cave.

At first I didn’t want to go down, but I did. It was a little slippery going down but we all made it in safely. It was tight squeeze to get into the space where we could all fit. Then we had a talk and saw some wetas and cave spiders, and then carried on walking. Later on we had to start crawling. We had to slide down a few bits - it was fun. Near the end we turned off all the lights and torches and had to be quite -we lasted 15 … seconds. After that we had to heading back out of the cave the way we came in. Then we headed back to Pukaha.

Later when we got back to Pukaha we got changed back into good clothes and said “Thank you” to Beachy and the Rooms 12, 13 and 14 all travelled back to school.
